In the Philippines, besides television, AM/FM radio is the other way of listening news, but here in USA, people watching news on TV rather than the radio because with the TV you can see the news live.
But lately, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security advices that every American home must have an emergency radio(pic below), in the event of hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, electric power outages and even terrorist attacks.
